Xiaojia Xu New Cellist of Erasmus Trio
Amsterdam, Mon, 6. Sep 2004The Erasmus Trio, settled in The Netherlands since 1995, has Xiaojia Xu for a new cellist.

The Erasmus Trio was founded in 1991 by the German pianist Thomas Herrmann, who in 1996 moved to Amsterdam with his Belgian-White Russian wife, violonist Vera Laporeva. From 2004 the Dutch-Chinese cellist Xiaojia Xu takes part in the ensemble.

The Trio has already given concerts in The Netherlands (Concertgebouw Amsterdam), Belgium, Germany (Mozart Hall of the Alte Oper in Frankfurt a.M.), South Africa and Switzerland, and performed during renowned festivals such as the Russian Chamber Music Festival in Gent, the Gergiev Festival in Rotterdam and the Ten Days' Art Festival in Bergen. They played the solo part in Beethoven's Triple Concerto and recorded for Dutch radio (AVRO) and German TV (ZDF/3 Sat). The trio attended masterclasses with several renowned ensembles such as the Brodsky Quartet and the Shostakovitch Trio, and with Menahem Pressler of the Beaux Arts Trio.

The Erasmus Trio is very interested in modern music. Apart from more widely known compositions in this field their repertoire contains several works that were especially composed for them. In 2001, the Trio performed two world premieres of modern pieces, viz. in Gent the Trio 'In memoriam A. Goutal' by G. Sosnovsky and in Potchefstroom (RSA) 'Les sarabandes' by South African composer H. Taljaard.

In 1991 the Trio won the first prize in 'Jugend musiziert' and moreover won prizes in 'Junge Ensembles musizieren' (1994) and the International Charles Hennen Concours in Heerlen (NL) (1996). Their first CD with works by Schubert and Schnittke was released in 2002.
