Amsterdam, Wed, 22. Feb 2006This March the NBE will repeat their semi-scenic programme around Mozart's 'Gran Partita' in several cities in the Netherlands.

As part of the 2006 Mozart Year the NBE once again will tour The Netherlands with the programme "Post van Mozart" (Mail from Mozart), a programme with a touch of music theatre around the Wind Serenade in B flat major K 361 or Gran Partita.
The furnishings on the stage are eighteenth-century: a chandelier, an armchair, a writing table, a candlestick. Mozart's wonderful music starts and after the first movement Mozart walks to the writing desk with a bird cage on it. He lights a candle and starts reading the first letter to his father. Then he blows out the candle and the second movement of the Partita starts. And so on.
The music develops as do also the letters. Mozart is serious as well as humoristic. He grumbles at his father, brags, gives an enthousiastic account of a concert, tells about his love for Constance. He twists his father round his little finger, eases his mind, makes jokes, but is also angry with people who do not believe in him or trust him. It becomes more and more evident: Mozart is fed up with the duties, the obligations. He wants to be free. At the end of the Gran Partita, just before the spectacular Finale, he opens the door of the cage .....
