Three Times Seven Deadly Sins
Amsterdam, Thu, 6. Apr 2006Between april 21 and 27 the NBE will perform 'Die Sieben Todsünden' by Brecht and Weil in cooperation with Dutch singers, composers, poets and students from secondary schools.

Between april 21 and 27 2006 the NBE with Tania Kross and the Egidius Quartet will perform 'Die sieben Todsünden', music theatre by Kurt Weill and Bertold Brecht from 1935.
In search for money to build a house on the Mississippi Anna and her family visit seven cities representing the seven deadly sins pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed and sloth. These are petty bourgeois sins that in Brecht's libretto become virtues.

The second part of the programme is an adventurous journey through The Netherlands where a tragedy is coming about. Seven famed composers and seven famed poets will break the silence about the seven deadly sins the Governement is currently committing against culture. The list of composers and poets will be published in the newspapers.

In Tilburg, Amsterdam en Utrecht concerts will start an hour earlier. At the Heerbeeck College in Best, the Eerste Christelijk Lyceum in Haarlem en the Cals College in Nieuwegein the deadly sins are a hot item already for months. Together with the NBE students are working hard on a performance of their own that takes half an hour and will precede the official NBE programme. How do the deadly or virtuous sins of students who went into the Todsünden of Brecht and Weill sound, feel or smell?
