Jubilant review of Petkova's CD 'Affettuoso'
'Intoxicating Performances'
Amsterdam, Mon, 15. Feb 2010In NRC Handelsblad of February 12, 2010 critic Wenneke Savenije is highly enthousiastic about Marietta Petkova's new CD 'Affettuoso'.

In 2010 we celebrate the bicentenary anniversary of both Schumann and Chopin, the most sensitive composers of the 19th century. On her new CD 'Affettuoso' the Bulgarian master pianist Marietta Petkova proves to be the ideal interpreter of these two composers.
As Wenneke Savenije writes in her review in NRC Handelsblad of 12 February: 'She plays the piano with impressive virtuosity, but eventually emotion is what it's all about. As a result, her playing may have a certain capriciousness, but it remains pure and expressive throughout. That is exactly what Petkova makes the ideal interpreter of the turbulent emotional outbursts of Schumann and the hypersensitive reflections of Chopin. First she lets herself sweep away by the rough waves of Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor, then she is swaying dreamily on the melodies of Chopin's Second Piano Concerto.
Petkova, who for the sake of liveliness prefers live recordings, is devotedly accompanied by the excellently playing North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra under Michel Tabachnik. The result is as intoxicating as it is imperative.'

Reviews of Petkova's live performances of these concertos are just as jubilant:
'It was pure magic' - Friesch Dagblad
'A passionate performance' - Leeuwarder Courant
'Petkova managed to penetrate into the intense emotions that once made Chopin dream so suggestively' - NRC Handelsblad
'Everything that can be expected from a splendid interpretation was here united: deep emotion, the wind of madness, poetry, a stunning technique, the right tempi.....' (Journal de Genève)

The CD is produced by Bloomline and can be bought in classical record shops as well as via, and

Marietta Petkova has just started a new solo tour through The Netherlands. For dates, venues and programmes see the list alongside or her personal website mentioned above.
