"Musical Journey around the World"
20th Anniversary of Erasmus Trio
Almere (NL), Mon, 31. Jan 2011The Erasmus Trio celebrates its 20th Anniversary with a new programme with works by composers of several countries.

In 1991 pianist Thomas Herrmann, then 17 years old, started a Pianotrio which he named after the famous cosmopolitan and open-minded humanist Desiderius Erasmus. Like Erasmus, the trio - since 2004 with a German pianist, a Belorussian violinist and a Chinese cellist - has always been on the lookout for new ideas and new impulses.

Concerts have taken the ensemble to Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, South Africa and China. They have played at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Mozart-Saal of the Alte Oper in Frankfurt am Main and also at numerous festivals like the Gergiev Festival in Rotterdam, the Kunst10Daagse Festival in Bergen and the Russian Chamber Music Festival in Gent. The trio has played several times as soloist in Beethoven's Triple Concerto. In September 2007 the Trio gave two concerts in Beijing, one of them together with renowned Chinese musicians. This was the first performance of a Dutch piano trio in China ever.
Critics have always given high praise to the Trio's performances. A selection:
- "Together with Vera Laporeva (violin) and Xiaojia Xu (cello) pianist Thomas Herrmann gave the audience the surprise of the evening: The peerless Trio no 1 op. 18 by Camille Saint-Saëns. High Romanticism, but Romanticism 'à la française': dramatic, but melodious and always transparant." (Algemeen Dagblad)
- "A real delight ...... To sum up the musical afternoon: Fascinating!"
(Neue Westfälische)
- "With brilliant trioplaying, many beautiful solo passages, changing moods and an excitingly dynamic finale the trio lived up to their reputation and compelled the audience to an sustained applause." (Delftsche Courant)

The jubilee year starts with a new programme with works by composers from several countries, called 'Musical Journey around the World'.
