Feb 2002Bassist Quirijn van Regteren Altena and pianist Peter Beijersbergen van Henegouwen have officially presented their new CD-production "Pantomime" in the The Hague Municipal Museum (Haags Gemeentemuseum).

The release was celebrated by a special concert given by both artists, followed by the official hand-over of the first copy of the new cd to Mr Elmer Schönberger, composer, music critic, musicologist and author of the accompanying booklet.
Roel van Oosten and Arne Werkman, two Dutch composers represented on the new release, were also presented CD's.
The new production PANTOMIME, which comprises a selection of 20th-century music for double bass and piano, was recorded at the Bloomline studio and is exclusively for sale through Bloomline.net.

In an interview by Winand v.d. Kamp in the 'Haagsche Courant', Quirijn van Regteren Altena dispels the rumour that bassists are a species threatened with extinction. 'I hope my CD will inspire young musicians to consider the double bass. Although there may be fewer young bassists of Dutch origin, we still see many fine young players that come from abroad. It is just a temporary situation.

I love to play modern music and have been fortunate enough to find good composers that enjoy writing for our instrument. The world of classical music is like a museum. We have our wonderful masterpieces in the permanent collection, but I must admit that I am always drawn to the exhibit of 'the new kid on the block.'

His partner, Peter Beijersbergen van Henegouwen, declares that at first he didn't know what to make of the double bass. 'But now I'm a real convert.'
